Have fun socialising and learning a new skill with Meadowhall’s ‘The Sessions’, an exciting new programme of tastings, masterclasses and workshops.
As part of a new initiative, local independent businesses have the opportunity to host a workshop that connects the community and offer a unique visitor experience at Meadowhall.
The sessions will showcase an array of talented and inspirational specialists covering areas from arts and crafts through to food and beverages – meaning that there is something to capture everybody’s interest.
One of the first to raise a glass to the opportunity was Sheffield Brewery Co. with their exclusive beer tasting event. Accompanied by my husband, who is an avid fan of real ales, we went along to see what our local brewer had to offer.
Upon arrival at the Upper Park Lane in Meadowhall, we discovered the dedicated The Sessions workshop space and were joined by ten other people which proved to be the perfect group size for an intimate and personal masterclass.
We expected the event to encompass samples of a few ales but the two hosts from the Brewery, Pete Rawlinson and Marv White shared their knowledge, expertise and passion to make it a highly enjoyable evening.
Marv, head brewer, explained the brewing process and ingredients and how this affected the final taste. He was very personable and engaged with the group well. We learnt the fun and challenges of running a microbrewery and were very much encouraged to interact during the session.
We were able to sample a wide selection from the Sheffield Brewery Company, with plenty of time allocated for tasting the different styles of beer from American IPA’s to wheat beers, Porters to fruit flavoured ales.
Sheffield Brewery Co have received many awards for their quality ales and having had the chance to taste a few it was easy to see why. With an ever-growing trend for real ales amongst people of all ages it was nice to discover that a local Sheffield company is making its mark.
Afterwards we decided to make a night of it and visit Coal Grill and Bar restaurant. In the evenings there is a much more relaxing atmosphere and it was the perfect end to a new experience at Meadowhall.
The masterclasses occur on a weekly basis and there are lots coming up over the summer period, with advance booking essential.
If Gin is your tipple of choice, another Sheffield company, Locksley Distilling Co. are hosting a monthly event with a chance to sample their premium range of locally distilled gins, including their signature Sir Robin of Locksley artisan gin. It’s your chance to learn all about the history of gin, how it’s made, how to make the perfect G&T, and of course, taste the gins yourself.
There are plenty of opportunities to get creative and learn a new skill by attending a Calligraphy workshop for example, to learn the art of Brush Lettering. Banner painting workshops offer the opportunity to learn the basics of fabric painting and create your very own banner.
Be inspired to make something unique for your home at a class which enables you to create a beautiful mini lampshade to adorn a string of fairy lights or learn to arm knit your very own Lulu blanket made from 100% pure Merino wool.
