Is your child or grandchild a budding vocalist, musician, public speaker, or performer? Then why not encourage them to apply to the popular Barnsley Youth Music and Drama Festival.
The festival takes place from Monday 4th to Friday 8th April at Emmanuel Church on Huddersfield Road, Barnsley. But the closing date for applications is Friday 4th February. There are over 100 music and drama classes to enter, and the full syllabus and application form can be found online.
Open to children and young people aged four to 20, the festival began in 1946 by the Barnsley Co-Operative Society to provide a platform for young performers to gain confidence. It is still supported by the Co-Operative Group but is now run solely by volunteers.
Entrants will be competing for over 60 trophies in everything from mime to monologues and mandolin. There are classes in orchestra, instrumental, speech performing, and singing, with entries for soloists, duets, or groups, with all classes judges by professional adjudicators.
Each trophy winner will then be eligible to compete for one of six encouragement awards and two gold awards at the grand finale concert on the Friday night.
All performers must be amateurs. Entry starts from £4.00 for single performers. For full eligibility, syllabus and application details, visit www.barnsley-ymdfestival.co.uk
