Have your say on shaping the future of physical activity in Rotherham

What makes it easy to get out for a walk, join a fitness class or kick a ball around the park? And what makes it harder than it should be?

The Yorkshire Sport Foundation team is inviting Rotherham residents to share their experiences, views and ideas about physical activity in our community.

Whether you’re someone who exercises every day, fits it in when you can, or hasn’t found the right opportunity yet, they want to hear from you.

This survey is part of a wider effort to better understand what helps people to be active – and what gets in the way.

For some, it might be time pressures, cost, confidence, health concerns or limited local facilities. For others, it could be the motivation that comes from friends, family support, accessible green spaces or enjoyable classes and clubs that make all the difference.

By listening to real experiences, the charity hopes to build a clearer picture of the barriers people face and the opportunities that could make being active easier, more welcoming and more enjoyable for everyone.

The survey comes as figures show the healthy life expectancy in Yorkshire is only 58.8 years compared to the national average of 61.5. Over the last 15 years, this figure has fallen from 63 years for men and 64 for women.

So while people might be living longer, they’re now spending more time with poor health.

Physical activity is a fundamental part of having a healthier population, but it also looks different for everyone.

It might mean walking to the shops, gardening, dancing in your kitchen, playing with your children, swimming, cycling, or training for a marathon. However you define it, your voice matters.

There are no right or wrong answers. Your honest feedback will help shape future plans, programmes and investments aimed at improving health and wellbeing across our community.

If you’ve ever thought, “I wish there was more of this,” or “I’d be more active if only…” this is your chance to let them know.

They’re particularly keen to hear from people living in East Dene, East Herringthorpe, Greasbrough, Rawmarsh, Ferham, Bradgate and Masborough.
