A powerful new portrait exhibition at Barnsley’s town hall shines a spotlight on the people who make our borough special.
Faces of Barnsley features striking portraits of residents from all walks of life, from volunteers, students and community leaders to families, faith groups and key workers.
The photographs, displayed within Experience Barnsley Museum at Barnsley Town Hall, reflect the warmth, character and unity that define our town and the people who are proud to call Barnsley home.
This exhibition challenges outdated perceptions of the town and instead reflects the modern, vibrant and inclusive face of Barnsley. Each portrait celebrates individuality while contributing to a collective story that reflects Barnsley’s strength, pride and sense of belonging.
From stall holders on the historic Barnsley Market to players on the open greens of Elsecar Cricket Club, visitors to Barnsley Libraries to our dedicated NHS staff – the exhibition is all about creating a permanent record of pride that connects every corner of the borough
Faces of Barnsley forms part of Barnsley Council’s wider Love Where You Live initiative which champions the people, places and stories that make Barnsley unique.
The council wants everyone to take pride in their communities, celebrate what makes their area special and be part of keeping Barnsley clean, welcoming and thriving.
Cabinet spokesperson for Public Health and Communities, Cllr Wendy Cain, said: “Faces of Barnsley is a wonderful example of how our Love Where You Live values are brought to life through our communities. It is a celebration of our Barnsley people: their individuality, their contributions and their pride in our borough.
Faces of Barnsley is on at Experience Barnsley until the end of the year and is free to enter. Visitors can join in the conversation online by sharing a photo of their favourite portrait and using the hashtag #LoveWhereYouLiveBarnsley
Experience Barnsley is open Tuesday to Friday 10am-4pm and Saturday 10am-3.30pm.
