Sheffield’s Motorsport Star Gears Up for GB3 Debut

Sheffield teen Rowan Campbell-Pilling is gearing up to make his debut in the GB3 Championship at Silverstone this April.

This comes after two successful years in British Formula 4 where the 19-year-old collected over 30 trophies and awards and made his way into the top ten standings.

Rowan also made his international debut last year in the Middle East, finishing in third place in the F4 UAE Trophy Series.

Rejoining the team responsible for his podium success last year, Rowan has been signed by Dubai-based Xcel Motorsport for his GB3 debut.

Rowan said: “I’m really excited to be joining the GB3 Championship with Xcel Motorsport. It’s been great working with them over the winter. They worked tirelessly for our campaign in the F4 Trophy Series and we enjoyed huge success from that.

“I’m super excited to get started in the GB3 race car in the coming weeks as I, once again, represent Sheffield on the world stage – it means a huge amount to me.”

GB3 is the premier single seater category for young drivers and a proven step to FIA Formula 3 and beyond.

The series takes place over eight events in five different countries, with Rowan set to race on some of the world’s most popular Formula 1 circuits including Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps, Spain’s Barcelona-Catalunya, and Austria’s Red Bull Ring.

Ahead of the first race at Silverstone on 23rd April, Rowan has spent his pre-season testing at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona preparing to drive the GB3 Tatuus.

The car has F1-style aerodynamics upgrades and a Drag Reduction System (DRS), as well as a newly increased 2.4L engine to achieve speeds of over 150mph.

Rowan has been competing in motorsports since he was just two he rode electric trials bikes around the UK. He then progressed to karting where he won a multitude of trophies and became the youngest ever winner of the National Series aged 14.

In 2024, Rowan made his single-seater debut in F4 just a month before his 17th birthday. As he steps up to GB3, Rowan is proud to represent Sheffield on the global stage.
