This September, the fine acoustics of Wentworth Church will strike the right note as it hosts its annual music festival.
The grade II* listed church in the heart of Wentworth village will have a series of free and paid-for concerts from Friday 25th to Wednesday 30th September showcasing some of South Yorkshire’s classical musicians.
The programme starts with a new addition to the line-up as Barnsley u3a choir gives a performance on Friday 25th September at 7pm. The choir is made up of u3a members who are either retired or no longer in full-time work. They are led by musical director Tony Jermy and accompanist Stephen Carey.
The pair return the following evening with their other musical outfit, the celebrated Thurnscoe Harmonic Male Voice Choir who are performing at 7pm on Saturday 26th September.
The final paid-for concert in this year’s festival is on Wednesday 30th September at 7.30pm with the return of the award-winning Barnsley Metropolitan Band.
Wentworth Church’s resident organist and director of music, Chris Reader-Viney, is also set to present a free organ recital on Sunday 27th September at 3pm. Chris will play a series of songs on the ‘Father’ Willis organ which was designed for the church and built in the late 1800s by Henery Willis Ltd.
Tickets for each concert are £10 and can be purchased at Wentworth Post Office or online at www.wentworthchurch.com. All monies raised from ticket sales go towards the upkeep of the church.
