Winter can be particularly challenging for older people, with colder temperatures, darker nights and the risk of loneliness and isolation making an already difficult time of year even harder.

To help fund the crucial support they offer for people over 50, Age UK Barnsley is bringing back its Win Christmas raffle this Christmas where you could win a giant hamper packed with treats, gifts and experiences from just £1 entry.

Last year’s Christmas fundraising campaign was a great success, with the lucky winner scooping some fabulous festive prizes including toys, gift sets and a Christmas tree with decorations, alongside vouchers and tickets for local experiences such as Magna Science Adventure Centre, Cannon Hall Farm and a family panto.

This year, the Win Christmas raffle will launch early November with the prize draw planned for mid-December. Tickets are £1 each and you can buy as many as you like, available from their pre-loved shop VINTage on Eldon Street or online.

All money raised with stay in the town, helping Age UK Barnsley provide friendship, connection, activities and practical support to people over 50 in the community.

Their projects and initiatives include things like the Men in Sheds and She Sheds woodworking sessions at The Hut, the Elizabeth Activity and Care Centre, an in-person befriending service, warm home checks and emergency repairs, and social and sports clubs.

A £5 donation could provide a weekly friendly phone call to someone who is feeling lonely, £15 helps fund a wellbeing session, while £25 can support a home visit.
