If you’re looking for low-cost hobbies, why not join Rotherham u3a this autumn as the new membership year starts.
For over 30 years, Ru3a has provided lifelong learning opportunities to people in Rotherham of all ages who are not in full-time work.
Whether you’re retired, unemployed or work part-time, becoming a member gives you access to over 30 activity groups ranging from sport and exercise to art and languages.
To stay active, you could join walking cricket or netball, or take part in tai chi or flexercise. The walking cricket group is continuing to grow, with regular matches against other local u3a groups. As autumn arrives, sessions will move indoors to The Boundary in Holbrook.
Always wanted to learn a language? You could try French, Italian or Spanish, with groups for absolute beginners to advanced.
If you’re creative, there are groups for photography, playreading and creative writing as well as yarn addicts and embroidery.
Love music? Rotherham u3a has a choir, a singing for fun group, a ukelele band, and an opera society. There are also various dancing groups for sequence, folk and line dancing.
Most groups meet weekly, with daytime and evening sessions at various venues across Rotherham. All activity groups are led by a co-ordinator, a fellow member, but the groups all chip in and learn from each other.
They have a Facebook group along with a website where you can easily see the activity groups on offer and the days, times and venues where they’re held.
Membership for the full year is £75 which gives you access to as many groups as possible. Before signing up as a member, you can try two sessions for free.
Rotherham u3a Open Event
If you’re interested in joining Rotherham u3a and would like to know more, they are hosting an open event on Thursday 10th September at Parkgate Astro between 11am and 3pm.
There will be taster sessions for the walking sport groups, bridge and games activities, arts and crafts work on display, as well as performances by the ukelele, dance and singing groups.
